P.O.S.T. #2 Beer & Music

A weekly missive with details of the beer line-up, up-coming gigs, and the all-important Rupert's Password at the Old Street Tavern in Ludlow, Shropshire.

GUEST BEERS

CASK

As usual the house beers are locals HPA, a smooth real ale at 4%, and Butty Bach, a premium ale at 4.5% - both from Wye Valley Brewery. Joining them this week are:

Sarah Hughes's Surprise from Sarah Hughes Brewery in Sedgley. A classic Black Country beer, it was originally called Surprise because they had no idea what gravity it was going to be. It's now settled at 5%, and is going faster than a fat man to a cake shop.

Pricky Back Otchan from Great Newsome Brewery in North Yorkshire. A robust, smooth golden ale at 4.2%, with citrus notes on the malt, and using British, German and American hops, it encourages us to drink to future hedgehogs!

The Champion from Hobson's Brewery in Cleobury Mortimer - a darker ale, which employs Maris Otter malting barley, and Fuggles and Goldings hops, to produce a tasty, nutty mild at 3.2%.

NEXT UP ON CASK

Josh English IPA from Fixed Wheel Brewery in Blackheath. Named after Welsh cyclist Joshua Tarling, this is a bold, strong English IPA, showcasing some of the lovely new world British hops being produced by the Charles Faram’s Hop Development Programme, Mystic & Jester. Packed full of citrus, passion fruit & tropical fruits, it boasts a firm balance of bitterness and sweet fruity juiciness.

Madness from Green Duck Beer Company in Stourbridge is a Slovenian pale ale, brewed with Slovenian Dragon and Styrian Kolibri hops - a sweet, smooth, fruity hop fest with a bitter finish.

Crambazzled from the Meanwood Brewery outside Leeds is a traditional best bitter with a modern twist - a slightly sweet malt character is supported by First Gold and Target hops, with spicy, citrus, and marmalade notes to the fore.

KEG

Duvet Vous by New Bristol Brewery is a soft, pillowy, hazy NEPA with low bitterness. Simcoe, Amarillo and Idaho 7. Tasting notes: you'll want another one.

NEXT UP ON KEG

Faith by Northern Monk Brewery in Leeds. It would be in poor taste if we were to make a joke about George Michael being in our cellar, so instead we will tell you that Faith is arguably the iconic hazy NEPA of the British scene, and it goes down as easily as an expensive footballer.

Tyler by Nothing Bound Brewing Co. in Bewdley - a hazy IPA made with All Nelson Sauvin hops, featuring notes of crushed gooseberry and grapes, and a smooth mouthfeel.

LIVE MUSIC

At the end of the month on Friday 27th we are looking forward to welcoming back the awesome Laurel Canyon, who will be bringing us their fantastic close harmonies and swinging '60s vibes. Expect colour - lava lamps, rainbows, and sweet, sweet songs from the likes of Beach Boys, Mamas & Papas, Buffalo Springfield et al.

RUPERTS SAVE DURING THE WEEK

Between opening on Sunday to 6pm on Thursday afternoon we offer a discount to Ruperts - those good sorts (or at least subscribers to this newsletter) who support us, as follows:
